TERRES TRAVEL FESTIVAL – Tourism, innovation and sustainability

The Grand Prix CIFFT Circuit 2019, is a global competition open to Tourism and Travel videos. Since 1989, the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals – CIFFT, aims to recognize the World´s Best Tourism Films & Tourism Commercials. Currently with 18 Festivals in 16 countries, we are very proud to present the winners of our newest member.

From 26 April to 5 May, the third edition of Terres Travel Festival – Films & Creativity took place in Tortosa, Spain – the capital of Terres de l’Ebre region, UNESCO’s Biosphere Reserve since 2013. Sustainable development and natural tourism are the focus of the festival, which aims to draw attention to the importance of these themes.

With 108 productions from 24 countries in the Official Selection, the International jury decided to award 36 audiovisual pieces from 15 countries. The Grand prix went to the series “Insider’s Guide to Riga” produced by DDB Latvia and nonsense.tv for LIVE RīGA.

“The promotional films series was created as part of a campaign to promote Riga as a city-break destination in our target markets. The task was to create a video content for Facebook that would differ from the typical destination advertising and be appealing to a younger crowd.”

DEC BBDO was the most awarded agency by getting three trophies for their creative campaigns for Promotur Turismo De Canarias – Alice in 7 Wonderlands, the Best film in Expeditions and adventure, #AndTheFood is Great, the Best film in Gastronomic Experiences and Enotourism and The island with soul as Best film in Accessible and Responsible Tourism category. Portugal was the foreign country most represented with 11 Films followed by Germany and Croatia with 5 films.

The activities of the festival allowed more than 900 people to watch the films of the Official Selection in unusual places like, bars, restaurants, in the museum of Tortosa, at the Apse of the Cathedral and even in the Crypt of the Church of the Reparation it was possible to enjoy the magnificent audiovisual productions in the competition by the local community.

For the third consecutive year the festival promoted the Terres Lab, which this year had the partnership of Catalan Audio-Visual Cluster. An important international forum configured as an opportunity for professionals and students to immerse themselves in the most innovative tendencies of the Tourism Audiovisual.

The festival closes with an elegant and well-presented award Ceremony, organized at the Felip Pedrell Auditorium, Tortosa. Followed by dinner at the Parador de Tortosa, a Moorish fortress situated on a hill nearly 200ft above sea level, looking down on the 2,000-year-old town of Tortosa and the valley of the River Ebro.

This was the first edition of Terres as an official member of CIFFT. Alexander V. Kammel, CIFFT director, exalts that “Spain is one of the most visited countries in the world. So Terres festival, newest member of CIFFT, with its Home in Tortosa, Catalonia is the perfect place to show the power of audiovisuals for tourism marketing. All this doubled by Terres Lab, a great opportunity to learn from the pros of the travel Industry”.
